The Nursery has been established since October 6th 1986 and has developed a successful reputation throughout the Cotswold's. The nursery is managed and owned by Caroline Koenig who bought Walkers in 1999 after subsequently working at the nursery for seven years. Caroline was initially N.N.E.B. trained and later gained a 2:1 BA (Hons) Degree in Early Childhood Studies.

Walkers Private Day Nursery is ideally located at the end of a private driveway, in the Old Town region of Moreton in Marsh. The building the nursery resides in was once the local school of Moreton. The catchment area for the nursery is extensive, covering Great Rissington, Stow on the Wold, Bourton on the Water, Kingham, Chipping Campden, Chipping Norton and Shipston on Stour.

The staff who work at Walkers

All the staff employed at Walkers have been formally interviewed and deemed suitable for the setting; further CRB checks have been made to ensure no criminal record is held preventing them from working with children. All the staff hold or are advancing their current qualification levels by working towards:- BA (Hons) Degree / Foundation Degree in Early Childhood Studies, NVQ level II or III and Diploma in Childcare qualifications. Currently 90% of the staff hold a level 3 childcare qualification. Ofsted advocates that at least 50% of the practitioners should already be / or working towards a qualified status. Here at Walker's Day Nursery we are proud of our 100% qualified / training status.

 

Bristol Standards

This is a self-evaluation framework to help settings to improve on their previous best. It involves working together on developments to improve outcomes for all children and families. In using the Bristol Standard, practitioners become part of a live process that protects and celebrates the wonder of childhood through well-informed and reflective practices.
 
The nursery is proud to have completed and passed their 1st year of the Bristol Standards (Jan 2013), and now look forward to their second year of reflection.

 

Learn to sign


All the staff have signing training and sign with children on a daily basis, this helps communication no matter what their age or development. Signing is used consistently with all interactions, which helps to enhance children's confidence and independence. Research has shown children who can sign show a reduction in challenging behaviour as they are able to communicate more effectively. As speech is more defined when signing, children have additional time to understand and process information, which increases their self-esteem as they are obtaining visual and listening clues simultaneously.

 

Mission Statement


The Nursery aims to provide a secure home like environment. Making the transition for both child and parent as easy as possible ensuring the whole experience is enjoyable, tailored to meet the needs of the child and their family. The nursery provides high quality childcare through an exciting and loving learning environment. This enhances children's learning experiences, by adapting the curriculum to meet children's individual needs and spectrums. Learning through play based activities, allows staff to scaffold children's next stage of learning development, preparing them for their school environment.
